KENT, Ohio — The Kent State track and field program wrapped up the indoor regular season with the Kent State Tune Up on Saturday at the Kent State Field House.
The Golden Flashes won nine events on the day, with David Paliscak being the only winner on the men's team with a top throw of 57'-5.75" in the shot put.
Cayla Carey was among the standout performers for the women's team. Carey's personal-best mark of 20'-3.50" in the long jump was enough to win the competition by more than a foot. The jump is tied for the best in the Mid-American Conference this year and No. 17 in the country, while moving her up to third in the Kent State record book. Carey also took second in the 60-meter dash, clocking a season-best time of 7.76.
Britni Phillips won the triple jump with a personal-best distance of 40'-2.25", a mark that ranks ninth in program history. Gabrielle Figueroa (weight throw) and Sam Tollerud (pole vault) also earned field event victories.
Maddie Dunlap won the one-mile run in a personal-best time of 5:01.71 for her fifth consecutive race victory. Dunlap has won five of six collegiate races overall, including the mile twice and the 3,000-meter run three times. The 4x400 relay team of Nicole Yeargin, Irene Skinner, Lauren Burnett and Tyler Williams ran a season-best 3:48.54 to capture victory. Skinner also earned an individual victory in the 400-meter dash (57.69). Mi'Angel Daniels (60-meter hurdles) was also victorious on the day.
Additionally, Riak Reese was in action on Friday at Michigan's Silverston Invitational. Reese remained unbeaten in event finals with a victory in the 200-meter dash. His time of 21.11 was 0.56 better than the second-place runner.
