Update: Monday's first two rounds of The Dickson were canceled due to wet conditions. Teams will play 18 holes Tuesday, beginning at 9 a.m. Eastern.
Two strong performances to start the 2018 portion of its season has No.16 Kent State women's golf team moving up in the national rankings. The Golden Flashes look to continue that trend Monday and Tuesday at The Dickson, hosted by Houston. The Woodlands Country Club will have 9 a.m. (Eastern) shot gun starts during both days on its 6,392-yard, par 72 course.
Eight of the nation's Top 50 programs will be among 17 teams competing in two rounds on Monday and a final round on Tuesday. The Flashes are the highest ranked team in the field, just ahead of the host Cougars at No. 21.
The rest of the field includes: No. 23 Iowa State, No. 25 Purdue, No. 36 Texas A&M, No. 32 Florida State, No. 44 Texas Tech, No. 47 Clemson, Charlotte, Mississippi State, North Texas, SMU, TCU, Texas State, Troy, Tulsa and UTSA.
Last February, Kent State finished third at The Dickson with a final score of 284-291-292=867. Monday marks the program's second appearance in the tournament.
Kent State's lineup features junior Michaela Finn, sophomores Pimnipa Panthong and Karoline Stormo and freshmen Kory Nielsen and Chloe Salort.
Just two weeks earlier, that lineup finished third in a field filled with highly-ranked teams at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, Feb. 11-13.
Kent State gets a similar two-week gap heading into the BYU at Entrada Classic March 12-13 in St. George, Utah.
