Four-Match Homestand Starts Tuesday Against Youngstown State

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State volleyball team hosts Youngstown State in its home opener at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The contest begins a four-match homestand for the Golden Flashes, which will be in action again at the M.A.C. Center this weekend for the Golden Flashes Classic.
The Flashes earned a pair of 3-0 victories on the opening day of the season before falling to the hosts in the championship match of the North Texas Invitational on Saturday. Kent State took care of Grambling State and Nicholls on Friday to sweep its first two opponents of the season for the first time since 2007.
Freshmen Kathryn Ellison and Danie Tyson were named to the all-tournament team. Ellison led Kent State with 30 kills (3.33 per set) and was second with 25 digs (2.78 per set). Tyson added 16 kills (1.78 per set) and was the team leader with eight total blocks and a .303 hitting percentage.
SCOUTING YOUNGSTOWN STATE
Youngstown State seeks it's a 4-0 start to the season for the second consecutive year after taking down St. Peter's (3-0), NJIT (3-1) and Bucknell (3-1) on opening weekend. The Penguins posted impressive averages of 15.18 kills per set and 23.27 digs per set in their three matches at the Bucknell Invitational
Outside hitter Margaux Thompson earned MVP honors after totaling 50 kills (4.55 per set) and 52 digs (4.73 per set). Thompson posted at least 14 kills and 15 digs in all three matches. Setter Alexi Byrnes, a transfer from Louisville, and outside hitter Aleah Hughes joined her on the All-Tournament Team. Byrnes recorded 107 assists (9.73 per set) and a team-high 53 digs (4.82 per set). Hughes added 30 kills (2.73 per set) and 49 digs (4.45 per set).
Led by first-year head coach Aline Scott, Youngstown State was picked to finish last in the Horizon League Preseason Poll after losing their first 15 conference matches a year ago.
