Field Hockey Falls in Tough Battle to Liberty

KENT, Ohio βThe Kent State University field hockey team (0-3) fell 2-1 in a tough battle with No. 23 Liberty University Friday afternoon at Murphy-Mellis Field. Sophomore Clara RodriguezΒ Setó tallied the Flashes' lone goal of the day, her third on the season.
The Kent State defense continued to be instrumental, holding the Flames to just 7 shots on goal in the contest. Junior Mary Crumlish tallied 5 saves in the net for Kent State.
Liberty (2-1) took the only shots of the first period, recording 5 shots as Crumlish recorded 3 saves for the Flashes. The Flames took the lead in the 14thΒ minute of play when junior Agueda Moroni broke away and scored unassisted, bringing the score to 1-0.
The score remained until the 46thΒ minute of play, when the Setó notched a penalty corner goal to tie it up 1-1. On Kent State's second consecutive penalty corner, Setó inserted the ball to junior Laila Richter, who pushed it back to Setó for the goal into the corner of the cage.
Liberty responded minutes later with the decisive goal, scoring after a penalty corner that was struggled over in front of the Flashes' net before Moroni was able to knock it past the Flashes' defense. Liberty senior Abby Julius recorded the assist.
The Flashes will host Saint Louis University on Sunday Sept. 2 at 12:00 p.m. at Murphy-Mellis Field.
