
No. 13 Women’s Golf Wins Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, NM- The No. 13 Kent State University women's golf team wrapped up a dominant performance that the Branch Law Firm Dick McGuire Invitational earning its first tournament win of the season on Tuesday at the New Mexico Championship Golf Course.
At the par 72 Championship course, Kent State won the tournament with a 6-under par 858 (289-280-289), defeating the second-place Pepperdine by five strokes. Third place San Diego State finished at 2-over, followed by Northwestern (+3) and tournament host New Mexico (+4) rounding out the top-5 standings.
Highlighting the performance was Marissa Kirkwood who led the Flashes' lineup finishing tied for sixth with a 2-under par 214 score over the two days. Kirkwood finished the final round with an even-par score and went 16 holes for par or less with two birdies. The junior was second in the tournament on par-3 scoring at 2-under with a 2.83 average.
Senior Michaela Finn wasn't far behind, as she finished tied for 10th at 1-under 215. Finn completed the third round with a 3-over par 76 score. The senior shot a total of 13 birdies in the tournament, good for second in the field of that category.
Chloe Salort and Pimnipa Panthong finished the tournament tied for 19th at 2-over par 218. Salort shot a 3-over 75 final round score. On the day, Salort shot two birdies, one being on her last hole. Panthong's final round play improved from her first day as she finished 2-under par 70. With back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12, Panthong birdied three more times to bring her day total to five.
Karoline Stormo rounded out the Flashes' lineup finishing in a tie for 28th with a 4-over 220 score. Stormo mirrored her second round score and shot an even-par. She shot 16 holes for par or less with three birdies.
Kory Nielsen competed as an individual and finished tied for 28th at 4-over 220. She also mirrored her second round score of 1-over 73 and shot two birdies.
Kent State led the tournament in par-3 scoring (+3), par-4 scoring (+13), and had a team total of 50 birdies.
The Flashes will look to build on this win at the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate Sept. 17-18 in Knoxville, Tenn.
