
Flashes Ready to Host Miami in MAC Showdown

KENT, Ohio- With sole possession of first place on the line, the Kent State University field hockey team (7-5, 2-0) looks to take down defending MAC Champs, the Miami RedHawks (7-5, 2-0), as the Flashes host the conference rival on Friday at 1 p.m. at Murphy-Mellis Field.
10-year-old Mary Alice Tryda, who was recently signed to the Kent State field hockey team through Team IMPACT, will serve as the Flashes' honorary captain.
The Flashes enter the game with the same overall and conference records as the RedHawks. Last weekend, Kent State remained perfect in MAC play after a 1-0 shutout victory over Ball State. The Flashes closed out the weekend with a dominating performance against Indiana beating the Hoosiers by a 5-1 margin.
Flashes Picked Second in MAC Preseason Poll
The Flashes were tabbed to finish second in the Mid-American Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll and received one first-place vote and one vote to win the MAC Tournament Championship. Last season, Kent State finished 8-12 overall and 5-1 in MAC play before falling to Miami in the MAC Tournament Championship match.

Scouting Miami
The RedHawks, stand 7-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play after splitting two games last week. Miami won its mid-week matchup against Towson, 5-2, before dropping to No. 20 Wake Forest on Sunday, 2-0. Leonor Berlie scored her first career hat trick in the win with Lexie Nugent and Taylor Curran also adding goals in the win. Berlie leads the RedHawks with seven goals and stands tied with Rodriguez Seto in MAC stats.
Kent State holds a 48-36-1 all-time series record against Miami. Both teams have met each of the last four seasons in the MAC championship game. Last season, the RedHawks shutout the Flashes 3-0 in regular-season play and took down Kent State in the MAC Championship game in a 5-3 decision.
