Flashes Take Down Hoosiers on the Road

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- The Kent State University field hockey team (7-5, 2-0) beat Indiana by a 5-1 margin on Sunday afternoon for its third-straight victory. The Flashes' goals were scored by five different scorers as Kent State outshot Indiana 14-6 in the contest.
Kent State had a productive first period as the Flashes put up three goals. Junior Clara Rodriguez Seto found the back of the net for the seventh time this year within four minutes of the game. Nearly three minutes later, Laila Richter set up senior Berta Jover Llorens for her first goal of the season. Freshman Maria Cambra Soler closed out the first-period scoring as she recorded her first goal of the season. Soler's goal was assisted by Rodriguez Seto.
The Hoosiers' only goal of the game came in the 18th minute that avoided the shutout.
Senior Alex Luxardo set up a Luisa Knapp goal at the 31-minute mark that extended the Flashes' lead to 4-1.
Junior Hailie Balachick put the game away with an unassisted goal in the fourth period that secured the 5-1 victory for Kent State.
The defense only allowed two shots on target while senior Mary Crumlish recorded one save. The Flashes placed 9 of their 14 shots on goal and earned seven penalty corners. Rodriguez Seto paced Kent State with four shots, a goal, and an assist.
Kent State returns to action Friday, Oct. 11 as the Flashes host Miami at 1 p.m. at Murphy-Mellis Field.
