The Kent State women's basketball team continues it three-game homestand at the M.A.C. Center with a 1 p.m. tip-off against Robert Morris.
The Golden Flashes (3-2) fell to Ohio State, 75-65, in front of a crowd of 4,272 for the home opener on Thursday. Lindsey Thall poured in a career-high 32 points and sank a school record eight three-pointers while sparking a late-game rally. Kent State made the most three-pointers in a game (13) since February 13, 1999.
All five starters are scoring in double-figures. Sophomore Lindsey Thall (16.2 ppg) is the top shotblocker (1.6 bpg) in the Mid-American Conference for the second year in a row. Freshman Katie Shumate has displayed a versatile skill set and ranks in the top-two on the team in scoring (12.8 ppg), rebounding (5.2 rpg), steals (11) and blocked shots (6). Sophomore Asiah Dingle (12.6 ppg) adds 4.4 rebounds per game and has a team-best 15 assists. Freshman Nila Blackford (11.6 ppg) is grabbing 8.0 rebounds per contest and has two double-doubles. Redshirt senior Megan Carter adds 10.6 points per game and sank the game-winner with 0.2 on the clock at Duquesne in the season opener.
Scouting Robert Morris
Robert Morris (2-2) missed a game-winning three-point attempt as time expired in last Sunday's 61-59 setback to Columbia. The Colonials led by five heading into the fourth but shot just 2-for-15 from the floor over the final 10 minutes. The unanimous Northeast Conference preseason favorite is holding opponents to 59.5 points per game and forcing 25.3 turnovers per set, which ranks ninth nationally.
All-conference center Nneka Ezeigbo leads the way with 15.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. The 2019 NEC Defensive Player of the Year also leads RMU in steals (11) and blocks (5). Fellow center Irekpitan Ozzy-Momodu (5.3 ppg) is a rebounding machine off the bench and averages 7.0 rebounds in just 14.3 minutes per contest. Forward Holly Forbes, a junior college transfer, bolsters the frontcourt with 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Nina Augustin (10.0 ppg, 5.8 apg) and Esther Castedo (8.0 ppg) are the Colonials' top perimeter players.
