
Flashes Return to Myrtle Beach for General Hackler Championship

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Kent State Men's Golf Team heads south to compete at the 18th annual General Hackler Championship from March 11-12, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Coastal Carolina University will host the 54-hole event at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club, on a par-72, 7,233-yard course. Tournament play will begin with a shotgun start at 7:40 a.m. on Monday, March 11, and teams will play 36 holes. The final round will be held Tuesday, with tee times beginning at 7:40 a.m.
The Competition
Six of the 13 teams in the field are ranked among the nation's top 30 in the Golfstat rankings - (6) Wake Forest, (17) Georgia, (18) North Florida, (23) Wake Forest, (25) Liberty and (29) Louisville, along with Coastal Carolina, ECU, East Tennessee State, Kentucky, North Texas and Northern Illinois.
Last time out
Kent State competed in the General Hackler back in March of 2018 and finished in 6th place. Senior Ian Holt (Stow, Ohio) put together one of the most impressive runs of the tournament with birdies on five consecutive holes from holes 13 through 17. Holt finished the day 5-under, moving him up to 15th place for the tournament at 1-under. Freshman Josh Gilkison competed as an individual and carded a 3-over on Sunday to finish tied for 45th place for the tournament at 6-over.
The Lineup
The Flashes lineup will be seniors, Bkarki Peturrson and Gisli Sveinbergsson, junior Chris Doody, sophomore Will Kurtz, and freshmen Julien Paltrinieri and Johnny Travale.
