The Kent State volleyball team will take the next step in preparation for the 2019 season with two matches scheduled at the M.A.C. Center this week. The Golden Flashes will compete against Findlay for an exhibition match on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and then hold the annual Blue and Gold Scrimmage at 6 p.m. on Friday.
Admission will be free for both matches. The exhibition against Findlay will be streamed on BoxCast.
Nine letterwinners return from last year's team, led by Mid-American Conference All-Freshman Team selections Erin Gardner and Melissa Kolurbasi. Classmates Alex Haffner and Danie Tyson started nearly every match, while senior Myla King is a three-year starter at middle blocker.
Head coach Don Gromala has won 88 matches during his tenure and looks to become just the second coach in program history to reach the 100-victory milestone.
Findlay was 24-7 last season and has been picked to finish second in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Preseason Poll. The Oilers are led by All-American middle blocker Shelby Kin (2.99 kps, 0.71 bps) and all-conference middle blocker Madison Moore (1.86 kps, 0.49 bps).
Kent State opens the regular season at the Charlotte Invitational Aug. 30-31 before opening the home schedule with three matches as part of the Golden Flashes Classic the following weekend (Sept. 6-7).
