Ann Arbor, Mich.- The Kent State University field hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision to the eighth-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes at a neutral site matchup in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Saturday.
It didn't take long for the Hawkeyes to get on the board as Iowa scored with just over one minute into the first period. One minute later, the Hawkeyes went up 2-0 early in the first period.
The Flashes fought back, earning their only goal of the match off a pass from the right side of the field. A pass from Sydney Washburn set up a Claudia Ortiz goal, her third of the season.
Iowa added a goal in the third period and a goal at the 50th-minute of the game that sealed the 5-1 victory.
Kourtney Keller led the Flashes with two shots and placed one on target. Iowa outshot Kent State 13-7 and slightly edged Kent State in penalty corners, 3-2.
Junior goalkeeper Azure Fernsler tallied five total saves.
The Flashes return to action tomorrow afternoon as Kent State faces No. 9 Michigan at 1 p.m.
