The Golden Flashes (7-6, 0-2 MAC) have lost their first two Mid-American Conference contests since the 2016-17 season, when they went on to win the East Division title. Kent State ran out of time in Wednesday's 74-69 loss to Eastern Michigan. Trailing by 12 with two minutes remaining, the Flashes scored eight straight points and got within 72-69 on a corner three-pointer by Katie Shumate with 2.9 seconds left. Five players scored in double-figures for the fourth time this season. Megan Carter led the way 13 points and Shumate was right behind with 14. Scouting Western Michigan
Western Michigan (9-4, 2-0 MAC) has won three games in a row and seven of its last eight overall. The Broncos rallied to win at Akron on Wednesday, 56-51, behind a 15-0 run in which the Zips were held scoreless for more than seven minutes of action.
The Broncos rank fifth in the MAC with an average of 71.3 points per game and relies heavily on production from guard Jordan Walker (16.1 ppg, 6.3 rpg), forward Breanna Mobley (13.6 ppg, 10.5 rpg) and forward Leighah-Amori Wool (12.5 ppg, 7.3 rpg). The trio accounts for just under 60-percent of the team's scoring and rebounding overall and 70-percent of its points over the first two conference games.
