
Flashes to Open Spring Season at Seminole Intercollegiate

KENT, OHIO- The Golden Flashes men's golf team returns to action this weekend, starting the spring portion of their schedule at the Seminole Intercollegiate hosted by Florida State.
The Flashes will look to keep up their strong play from the fall where the team was led by the same five that will compete in Florida: Cade Breitenstine (Freshman), Josh Gilkison (Junior), Will Kurtz (Junior), Julien Paltrinieri (Sophomore), and Chris Vandette (freshman). Senior Chris Doody will play in the event as well as an individual, he will compete for the individual title but will not count towards the team score.
Josh Gilkison expressed some amazing promise after tying for third place at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate Tournament. Gilkison shot nine-under including the low round of the fall, firing an opening-day 63. Paltrinieri is coming off a strong showing in Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, the final tournament of the fall. shooting a career best 66 in the final round.
Breitenstine has adjusted nicely to college golf, the freshman played to an average of 72 over 15 rounds with a low of 68. Kurtz has been a consistent force in his Kent State career. The junior has posted a pair of rounds in the 60s in the fall and owns the best first round average on the team at 71.8. Vandette has also had a solid start to his college career. The Quebec native had a top-20 finish at the Pioneer Creek Invite and three rounds in the 60s including a low round of 68 in the Pioneer Creek's final round.
The two-day event will be held at Southwood Golf Club, a semi-private course designed by PGA Tour legend Fred Couples. This course is a par-72 that totals 7172 yards.
Golfstat will provide live stats for the two-day event. The Flashes will be back in action on Monday, March 2nd at the Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton, South Carolina. The two-day event will be hosted by Michigan State.
