MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — After battling back from a 21-point deficit to tie the game with a little more than six minutes remaining, the Kent State women's basketball team lost to Central Michigan, 84-71, on Saturday.
The Golden Flashes (7-5, 6-3 MAC) evened the score at 71-71 on a three-point field goal by sophomore Clare Kelly with 6:10 remaining in the fourth quarter but missed their final 10 field goals attempts as the host Chippewas end the contest with 13 straight points.
Sophomore Katie Shumate scored a team-high 17 points. Kelly shot 4-of-7 from behind the three-point line and finished with 14 points, her fourth straight double-digit scoring effort. Sophomore Nila Blackford posted another double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Despite a tough shooting day, junior Lindsey Thall grabbed a season-high nine rebounds to help Kent State to a 44-33 advantage on the boards. Thall also blocked a pair of shots.
The Flashes continue a four-game road swing at Western Michigan on Wednesday, February 17.
