
Flashes Drop Season Opener to Fresno State

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State lacrosse team (0-1) dropped its 2021 season opener, 20-11, against Fresno State (1-1) at Dix Stadium on Friday afternoon.
The Golden Flashes kept it close early, tying the game at two with Kenzie Sklar's first goal of the season. She ended the game with a hat trick for Kent State.
Fresno State ended the half on a 7-2 fun to take the lead into the locker room. The Bulldogs scored the first seven goals of the second half to take a commanding 16-4 lead.
The Flashes netted seven of the last 11 goals in the game but could not overcome the large second-half deficit.
Abby Jones led the way for Kent State, scoring four goals and adding one assist. She posted a program record 13 shots and 10 shots on goal for the Flashes.
Madison Rapier added two goals, while Megan Kozar and Meghan Cawood each added a goal of their own in the loss.
Four Bulldogs tallied at least four goals in the contest, led by Sydney Skalstad who scored five goals. Megan Walaitis, Logann Eldredge and Hennessey Evans each recorded four goals.
Next Up
Kent State will take a week off before hosting Marquette on Saturday, Feb. 27, at Dix Stadium. The three-game homestand will continue on Wednesday, March 3, against Robert Morris.
