ATHENS, Ohio – The Kent State field hockey team (9-3, 7-3 MAC) extended their win streak to four defeating Ohio 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Pruitt Field.
The Golden Flashes were in control for much of the game finishing with a lead in total shots (13-8), shots on goal (9-8), and penalty corners (8-3). Six different players on Kent State registered a shot on goal with freshman Katie Wuerstle leading the way with two.
The Flashes went ahead early in the first quarter and refused to relinquish the lead after that. After sophomore Sydney Washburn scored in the first, freshman Jenna McCrudden put Kent State up 2-0 just one minute into the second quarter.
The Flashes would go into half time up 2-0.
Ohio's Jillian Shive would strike first in the third quarter bringing the Bobcats back within one, but junior Helena Cambra Soler would score again for the Flashes ultimately putting it out of reach for Ohio.
Senior goalkeeper Azure Fernsler finished the day with seven saves on eight shots faced.
The Flashes will be back in action next weekend as they take on Central Michigan University on Friday, April 23 and Saturday, April 24 at Murphy-Mellis Field. Both games are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
