Field Hockey Victorious in Second Consecutive Double Overtime Game

KENT, Ohio โ The 23rd ranked Kent State field hockey team (5-2, 1-0 MAC) defeated Ohio in double overtime by a score of 3-2 at Murphy-Mellis Field. This is the Flashes second consecutive double overtime victory. ย
Kent State held a 1-0 lead the majority of the game and extended their lead to two at the beginning of the fourth quarter with a goal by fifth year Clara Rodriguez Seto. Ohio would come roaring back scoring just 43 seconds later and would find the back of the net again to tie the game 2-2.
After a scoreless first overtime period, junior Sydney Washburn would win it for the Flashes scoring her second goal of the game. Her game winning goal was assisted by sophomore Katie Wuerstle.
Kent State led in total shots (19-12) and shots on goal (11-9), while the two teams were dead even in penalty corners (7-7). Fifth year goalkeeper Azure Fernsler had seven saves on the day for the Flashes.
Kent State will face off against Central Michigan on Friday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
