COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Kent State men's golf team sits in fifth place after two Saturday rounds of the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate.
Josh Gilkison and Jordan Gilkison are tied for fifth place on the individual leaderboard. The brothers are each 5-under par through two rounds and sit just four strokes back of the leader.
"I'm really happy with how we played," said Head Coach Jon Mills. "We got off to a good start, but we gave some back on the back nine in the first round. We managed to bounce back in the second round under tougher conditions and post the second-lowest score of the round. It was great seeing Jordan Gilkison play solid today and Cade Breitenstine's confidence is growing with each round he plays."
The Golden Flashes ended the opening round tied for seventh place. After shooting a 1-under par 287 in the first round, the Flashes shot a 7-under par 281 to jump three spots in the team standings. Josh Gilkison tied for the second-best score in the tournament in the second round with a 4-under par 68.
Breitenstine, last year's Robert Kepler Intercollegiate champion, tied for the third-best score in round two and improved his score by four strokes. He currently sits tied for 16th place and remains within striking distance of the top five.
The Flashes are just two strokes out of third place heading into the third and final round on Sunday. Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m., and live stats are available here.
