Jordan Gilkison recorded his second top 15 finish of the year this Fall, tying for 15th to lead the Flashes at the Fighting Irish Classic.
The junior from Springboro, Ohio triple bogeyed his first hole out of the gate but followed with five birdies in his next seven holes to righten the ship.
Gilkison tied for 2nd among the 81 golfer field with 14 birdies and also sunk the only eagle of the tournament for Kent State this morning, knocking the ball in in three strokes on the 518 yard par five.
"He's got a great demeanor on the golf course and a very solid game," said Head Coach Jon Mills.
Redshirt Senior Cade Breitenstine finished one stroke behind his teammate, shooting a three round score of 212 to finish at two over par.
The local product had the Golden Flashes best round of the tournament, shooting a three under 67 through the first 18 holes.
As a team, Kent State sat in 2nd place after round one but struggled in round two, leading to a 7th place finish among the 14 team field.
"We got off to a great start," said Mills. "It just snowballed and obviously I was pretty disappointed in how they played in that 2nd round."
Heading into the 2nd day and final 18 holes, Coach Mills noted the conversation he had with his five golfers after the 2nd round. That translated into a much better performance this morning, as Kent State shot 16 strokes better as a team in round three.
Junior Bryce Reed was right behind his two counterparts finishing at three over par shooting a 213 over 54 holes, earning him a tie for 26th.
