
Golden Flashes fall to Red Flash

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State lacrosse team (3-4) lost 12-9 to Saint Francis (Pa.) (4-1) this afternoon.
To start off the matchup, the Red Flash struck first taking the lead 13 minutes in. With a strong assist by Jackie Wolford, Morgan Kubicki put the Golden Flashes on the scoreboard tying it 1-1. Not long after, Saint Francis (Pa.) scored from the top of the circle. To bring the score 2-2, Kenzie Sklar secured a goal with five minutes left in the quarter.
In the second quarter, the Red Flash took the lead 5-2 after a free position shot, followed by back-to-back goals. Sklar scored her second goal of the game bringing the score 5-3. Finding the team's momentum, Wolford scored for the Flashes. After a green card on Kent State, Saint Francis (Pa.) scored increasing their lead 6-4. Scoring her fourth goal of the game, Bella Fisher scored off a free position shot. At the half, the Red Flash led in shots 20-15.
Going into the third quarter, Saint Francis scored directly off a successful clear. Shortly after, Kent State responded with a goal by Kenzie Sklar, who secured a hat trick for the game. Increasing their lead 10-5, the Red Flash secured two more goal with five minutes left in the quarter.
After Saint Francis struck first with a goal in the final quarter, Freshman Emily Bond scored her first career goal at 11:30. Wolford took a hard, straight shot from the top of the circle to bring the score 11-7. Sklar then scored her fourth goal of the game with an assist by Morgan Kubicki. Right after a draw control by Wolford, Bond was able to score her second goal of the game. After four goals in a row by Kent State, Red Flash responded with a goal bringing the score 12-9 up until the end of regulation. Goalkeeper Madison Flannigan had 13 saves.
Next up, the Golden Flashes are at Dix Stadium to take on Presbyterian on Thursday, March 16 at 2 p.m.
