West Lafayette, IND… The Kent State men's golf team posted the best result of their spring season on Saturday, closing out the Boilermaker Invitational third place amidst a strong 13-team field.
With this result, the Flashes have now posted four top four finishes on the year, and have been inside the top ten at seven of the nine events on their schedule.
Things got off to a wild start when junior Luca Civello was struck by a ball and was unable to play the first two rounds, but despite playing down a man, the Flashes rallied and surged to the top of the field.
"We played well even with just four guys." KSU head coach Jon Mills said. "They really stepped up and played excellent golf. Seeing them all finish inside the top 25 gives us a glimpse of what this team is capable of."
Civello would return to card a 71 on the final day, closing out his lone round of competition right on par, and helping his team secure the top three finish.
It was a strong day all around for Kent State that saw three of the five members of their lineup finish inside the top ten of a 75-player field, led by Chris Vandette, who carded a 69 in the final round to wrap up his weekend six strokes under par.
Ben MacLean and Jordan Gilkison weren't far behind finishing in ties for eighth and tenth respectively, with Cade Breitenstine adding a fourth Golden Flash to the list of players under par this weekend.
The Flashes will face one final test in the regular season portion of their calendar on April 21st when Kent State makes the short drive to Columbus for this year's Robert Kepler Intercollegiate next week.
