Kent State Trio Earns MAC Lacrosse Specialty Awards

CLEVELAND - The Kent State lacrosse team had six student-athletes awarded with conference honors, as announced by the Mid-American Conference this morning.
Junior Jackie Wolford was named MAC Offensive Player of the Year. Senior Madison Flannigan was honored with MAC Goalkeeper of the Year. Both players received All-MAC First Team recognition. Senior Kenzie Sklar and junior Lily Miller were also named All-MAC First Team. Freshman Zayda Crumpton and senior Allison Kortowich received All-MAC Second Team selection.
Head coach Brianne Tierney was awarded Coach of the Year after leading the Golden Flashes to a share of the first MAC regular season championship in program history.
Wolford received First Team All-MAC award for the second season in a row and enters postseason play as the MAC leader with 80 points and 67 goals, which is just one away from tying the conference single-season record. The attacker averaged 4.75 goals per game against league opponents.
Flannigan started all 17 games in goal and ranked second in the conference in save percentage (.494), saves per game (9.71) and ground balls per game (2.59). Her 19 saves against San Diego State were the most by a MAC goalkeeper this season. Flannigan set program single-season records for victories (9), saves (165), goals against average (12.63) and ground balls (44).
Sklar finished the regular season with 65 goals and ranks sixth in the nation. She set the single-season record for free-position goals (13) and single-game records for points (10) and goals (8).
Miller led the Flashes' defense that ranked second in the MAC in goals allowed per game and held four of eight conference opponents to 10 or fewer goals. She tied for the team lead with 16 caused turnovers and became Kent State's all-time leader in the category.
Crumpton played a crucial role in Kent State's improvement in the draw control game and set a new program single-season record with 72. Crumpton is ranked No. 5 in the MAC for draw controls per game (4.24) and No. 6 for ground balls per game (2.12). She also totaled 23 goals, two assists and 16 caused turnovers over the season.
Starting in all 17 games, midfielder Kortowich recorded 37 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers. She is ranked fourth in the MAC for ground balls per game, including a personal season high of five against Robert Morris.
Kent State enters the MAC Tournament after sharing the regular season championship by going 7-1 in conference play. The Flashes will battle Central Michigan in a semifinal contest on Thursday at 4 p.m. in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. The Championship contest will be held Saturday at 3 p.m.
