
Kent State travels for pair of contests in Pennsylvania

The Kent State field hockey team (1-3) travels to Pennsylvania for non-conference contests against No. 11 Penn State on Friday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. and Bucknell on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 3 p.m.
About the Flashes
The Golden Flashes beat Michigan State 1-0 in the home opener on Friday. Freshman Eva Usoz scored the only goal in the 51st minute after taking possession into the circle and finding the back of the cage. Cecile van Eijck made four saves overall. On Sunday, Kent State fell 5-4 in double overtime against UC Davis. Usoz recorded two more goals and Patricia Strunk had two assists.
Scouting No. 11 Penn State
The Nittany Lions (2-2) split its two games on a trip to California this past weekend. Three of their four games have been decided by one game, including two that needed overtime. All-Americans Sophia Gladieux and Mackenzie Allessie have taken more than half of Penn State's shots on the season and Gladiue has a team high five goals.
Scouting Bucknell
The Bison (1-3) went 1-1 in the Buckeye Invitational this weekend and secured their first win of the season against Ball State on Friday, 2-1 in overtime. Junior Lily Neilson scored the game-winning goal and leads the team in shots (18). On Sunday, the Bison fell 2-1 up against Ohio State.
The Series
The Nittany Lions are 6-0 over the Golden Flashes. In the last matchup, Kent State fell 3-0 and Cecile van Eijck made 10 saves.
The Flashes are 4-1-1, including 2-0 under the direction of fifth year head coach Kyle DeSandes-Moyer. Kent State went 3-2 last season and 2-1 in 2022.

The Flashes travel to Central Michigan on Friday, Sept. 15 for the Mid-American Conference opener. Then on Sunday, Sept. 17, Kent State is back at Murphy-Mellis Field to face off against Michigan.
