KENT, Ohio. — Sophomore Riley Rismiller led all scorers with a career-high 20 points as Kent State fell to James Madison, 67-56, in a MAC-Sun Belt Challenge matchup on Monday evening at the M.A.C. Center.
On a night in which the Golden Flashes (0-1) failed to connect on a shot from beyond the three-point arc, Rismiller provided a physical presence inside, drawing 10 fouls and shooting 14-of-15 at the free throw line in her Kent State debut.
"Obviously, this was a tough game against a tough opponent," head coach Todd Starkey said. "We had some unique lineups in the game today. I was proud of the way this team fought. If we shoot the ball better and keep them off the offensive boards, I think we have an excellent chance of winning that basketball game."
Freshman Journey Hildebrand scored nine points off the bench, while senior Jenna Batsch, redshirt junior Kaley Perkins and junior Tatiana Thomas added eight points apiece.
Senior Bridget Dunn led the Flashes on the boards with 10 rebounds and recorded a career-high five blocked shots.
The Flashes will be back in action at the M.A.C. Center on Thursday against Walsh. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
