
Kent State Hosts Virginia University of Lynchburg Tuesday for Annual Field Trip Game

The Kent State women's basketball team returns to action at the M.A.C. Center against Virginia University of Lynchburg on Monday at 11 a.m. for the annual School Field Trip Day presented by Ohio's 529 College Advantage. More than 1,000 students from local elementary schools are expected to attend the game.
The Golden Flashes (5-4) dominated the second half to beat Niagara, 89-73, for the first true road win of the season back on Dec. 5. Kent State committed five early turnovers against the host's pressure defense and fell behind by nine less than six minutes into the contest before battling back to lead by one point at halftime. The Flashes shot better than 60% in both quarters during the second half and used a 10-0 run late in the third to build a double-digit lead. Sophomore Mya Babbitt led all scorers with 23 points and senior Jenna Batsch shot 8-of-11 from the floor while scoring a season-high 22 points. Junior Tatiana Thomas matched her career-high with 14 points. Kent State recorded 26 assists as a team, the most in a game since Jan. 19, 2012, against Buffalo (26). Junior Dionna Gray and Batsch had six each to share the team lead and freshman Meghan Murray added five.
Preseason All-MAC First Team selection Jenna Batsch is the top scorer at 13.9 points per game and has reached double-figures in eight straight contests. Mya Babbitt (13.0 ppg) has scored 20 or more points in three games and ranks second in the Mid-American Conference in three-pointers (22). Dionna Gray has led Kent State to a 4-1 record after missing the first four games of the season and averages 11.4 points and 5.4 assists per game. Bridget Dunn (8.3 ppg) is second in the MAC in rebounding (9.8 rpg) and blocked shots (10). Riley Rismiller, a transfer from Dayton, has made an immediate impact with averages of 9.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

The Dragons (1-6) are led by guard Aalyssa Rogers, who averages 15.0 points per game. Guard Karrin Purchas provides versatility with averages of 10.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 3.0 assists per contest.
