
Women’s Hoops Back on the Road Wednesday at EMU

The Kent State women's basketball looks to remain in contention for the Mid-American Conference regular season crown and will visit Eastern Michigan for a 7 p.m. contest inside of the Gervin GameAbove Center on Wednesday.
The Golden Flashes (16-8, 11-3 MAC) completed a season sweep of rival Akron with a 73-51 wire-to-wire victory Saturday at the M.A.C. Center. The defense dominated in the first and third quarters, holding the Zips to 18 points on 28% shooting during those 20 minutes of action. Redshirt senior Katie Shumate scored a game-high 18 points and freshman Janae Tyler added 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
Kent State has been terrific on the defensive side of the ball and ranks second in the MAC in points allowed (61.5 ppg), opponent field goal percentage (.384), and turnover margin (+3.1).
Preseason All-MAC First Team guard Katie Shumate leads the Flashes with averages of 14.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per game and is one of only four MAC players who rank in the top 10 in both categories. Forward Jenna Batsch has been among the most improved players in the conference this season and is averaging 13.5 points per game. Guard Corynne Hauser (9.8 ppg) owns a 1.71 assist-to-turnover ratio and is averaging the most assists per game (4.2) by a Kent State player since the 2014-15 season. Forward Janae Tyler (9.2 ppg) is one of the top scorers among reserve players in the MAC, while forward Bridget Dunn (6.6 ppg) has helped the Flashes lead the conference in rebounding margin (+5.9) with a career-high 6.6 rebounds per game and leads the Flashes with 38 three-point field goals.
Scouting Eastern Michigan
The Eagles (6-19, 2-12 MAC) have gone 1-7 since the teams played at the M.A.C. Center on Jan. 24 with the only win coming against South Alabama in a MAC-SBC Challenge contest. Eastern Michigan ranks 11th in the conference with an average of 58.0 points per game and has been unable to score more than 55 in three consecutive games.
Center Tayra Eke is the MAC leader with 49 blocked shots and is EMU's top scorer at 9.8 points per game while adding 7.2 rebounds per game. Forward Kennedi Myles (8.1 ppg) averages 9.0 rebounds per game, which ranks third in the conference, and has team-high 43 steals. Forward Treasure Thompson (5.6 ppg) has averaged 9.9 points on 60.3% shooting over the past eight games.
