Kent State looks to bounce back from its first Mid-American Conference loss of the season when it takes the court against host Ohio on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 3:30 p.m.
The Golden Flashes (9-6, 2-1 MAC) were unable to overcome a slow shooting start and slew of turnovers that contributed to a 15-point deficit during the first quarter on Wednesday and fell on the road to Toledo, 70-59. Despite logging only 23 minutes due to foul trouble, senior Jenna Batsch led all scorers with 14 points. Junior Tatiana Thomas and sophomore Riley Rismiller provided major contributions off the bench. Thomas finished with 13 points and five rebounds, while Rismiller had 12 points and team-high seven boards.
Preseason All-MAC First Team selection Jenna Batsch (14.8 ppg, 4.0 apg) is one of only two players in the conference averaging at least 14 points, four assists and one steal per game. Bridget Dunn (7.8 ppg) ranks sixth in the nation in defensive rebounding (8.7 drpg) and 22nd overall in rebounds per game (10.2). Mya Babbitt (12.3 ppg) leads the MAC with 37 three-pointers and has made 40.2% of attempts from beyond the arc. Dionna Gray averages 10.4 points and 4.8 assists per game while leading Kent State to a 7-3 record in games played this season. Riley Rismiller, a transfer from Dayton, has made an immediate impact with averages of 10.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.
Scouting Ohio
The Bobcats (3-10, 1-2 MAC) return home to the Convocation Center following two road contests. Ohio takes just over 50% of its shots from behind the three-point arc and ranks 13th in the country in three-point field goal attempts per game (28.0) and 294th in three-point field goal percentage (.272).
Guard Kennedi Watkins (15.7 ppg) is averaging 19.3 points per game during conference play. Guard Bailey Tabeling (12.1 ppg) has attempted more three-pointers than any other player in the MAC and leads the Bobcats in assists (34) and steals (23).
