
Kent State Posts Wire-to-Wire Victory at Central Michigan

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Kent State never trailed and led by as many as 29 during a 77-56 victory over Central Michigan inside of McGuirk Arena on Wednesday.
The Golden Flashes (12-7, 5-2 MAC) focused on pounding the ball inside early and shot 6-of-7 from the floor for a 17-5 lead just over five minutes into the contest. After an 8-0 run by the Chippewas, Kent State closed the first quarter with inside baskets from freshman Meghan Murray and junior Tatiana Thomas for a 21-13 advantage.
After scoring 14 points in the paint during the opening 10 minutes, the Flashes shot 5-of-7 from three-point range in the second period to build a 42-28 halftime lead.
Kent State started the third quarter with a 16-2 run and the lead reached 29 on a left-handed runner off the glass by Murray with 51.1 seconds left in the period.
Senior Jenna Batsch led all scorers with 16 points and recorded six assists to lead the Flashes. Sophomore Mya Babbitt (13) and senior Bridget Dunn (10) joined her in double-figures. Dunn also grabbed six rebounds to share the team lead.
Sophomore Riley Rismiller and junior Tatiana Thomas provided key contributions off the bench while playing extended minutes due to foul trouble for sophomore Janae Tyler. Rismiller finished with nine points on 4-of-5 shooting and three rebounds while Thomas added eight points and six boards.
Kent State will be back on the road to battle Miami on Saturday at 1 p.m.
