
Improved Miami Next Road Test for Kent State Women’s Basketball

Kent State will go for its third consecutive victory and attempt to even its record in true road games when it battles Miami in a Mid-American Conference women's basketball contest on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Golden Flashes (12-7, 5-2 MAC) led by as many as 29 points during a 77-56 win at Central Michigan on Wednesday morning. Kent State's offensive versatility was on display in the first half. After pounding the ball inside and scoring 14 paint points in the first quarter, the Flashes shot 5-of-7 from three-point range in the second quarter. Senior Jenna Batsch led all scorers with 16 points and recorded a team-high six assists. Sophomore Riley Rismiller and junior Tatiana Thomas took advantage of the opportunity for additional playing as a result of foul trouble. Rismiller scored nine points on 4-of-5 shooting and had three rebounds, while Thomas had eight points and shared the team lead with six rebounds.
Preseason All-MAC First Team selection Jenna Batsch (15.1 ppg, 4.5 apg) is the only player in the conference averaging at least 15 points and four assists per game. Bridget Dunn (8.6 ppg) ranks fourth in the nation in defensive rebounding (8.8 drpg) and 21st overall in rebounds per game (10.3). Mya Babbitt (12.6 ppg) leads the MAC with 48 three-pointers and has made 39.0% of attempts from beyond the arc. Riley Rismiller, a transfer from Dayton, has made an immediate impact with averages of 9.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Dionna Gray averages 8.5 points and 4.8 assists per game while leading Kent State to a 10-4 record in games played this season.
Scouting Miami
Defense has been key to the RedHawks (11-6, 4-3 MAC) already surpassing last season's win total. Miami leads the MAC and ranks in the top-25 in the country in scoring defense (56.0 ppg) and turnovers forced per game (22.5) with a defensive rating (81.1) that is tied for 27th.
Guard Enjulina Gonzalez is the only player to earn multiple MAC Player of the Week awards this season and is a three-time recipient. Gonzalez averages 16.8 points per game and is the top three-point shooter in the conference at 46.3%. Forward Amber Tretter adds 11.2 points per game and grabs a team-high 7.7 rebounds per contest. Guard Tamar Singer (6.0 ppg) leads the RedHawks with averages of 4.0 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
