
Flashes Drop First MAC Contest at Toledo, 70-59

TOLEDO, Ohio — Kent State dropped its first Mid-American Conference game of the season, 70-59, to host Toledo on Wednesday night.
The Golden Flashes (9-6, 2-1 MAC) trailed by by 15 during the opening period, and a pair of baskets by senior Bridget Dunn got Kent State within 22-10 after 10 minutes of action.
The deficit reached 18 early in the second period and the Flashes had a chance to get within 10 with less than two minutes remaining before halftime but a moving screen was called. Toledo scored the final four points in the period to lead 40-23 at the intermission.
Junior Jenna Batsch scored eight of her game-high 14 points during the third period, but the deficit reached 20 entering the final period.
Kent State sank its first five shots in the fourth quarter and got within 11 at the 5:38 mark but was unable to get closer. Junior Tatiana Thomas shot 5-of-5 and scored 10 of her 13 points during the period.
The Flashes will travel to Ohio for the next game on the schedule on Saturday, Jan. 11.
