Last Time Out
The Kent State Soccer team grinded out a tough 1-0 victory over Ohio in conference play Thursday night at home to earn another pivotal three points in the Mid-American Conference standings.
The contest was a physical one the whole way through as a red card was given to the Bobcats in the 10th-minute as Ohio had to play with a player down down for the rest of the game. Both teams held scoreless through the rest of the half to keep it deadlocked heading into the break.
Kent State started the second half aggressive and got on the board in the 54th-minute on a goal in front of the net from junior forward Josie Morgan who was assisted by sophomore Allison Collins and junior Samantha Miller. The goal was the second of the season for Morgan; and it was enough to give the Blue and Gold the lead. They would never look back as strong defense the rest of the way secured them the one-goal victory.
The Flashes once again led the game in shooting with a tight margin of 8-6; while edging out the Bobcats 4-2 in shots-on-goal. The Flashes also led the corner kick category by a count of 6-3. Leah Shaffer picked up another pair of saves in the win.
Scouting Northern Illinois
The Huskies have posted a 4-5-3 record so far in 2025 while going 2-2-2 in conference play. They are currently just on the outside looking in on a conference playoff spot. They most recently defeated MAC leader Western Michigan University on Thursday by a score of 1-0.
Junior forward Tyra King leads the team with two goals this season while senior forward Kelsi McLaughlin and sophomore forward Alyssa Stephenson have each recorded a goal and assist this season.
Series History
Sunday's contest will be the 31st all-time meeting between the Golden Flashes and the Huskies as KSU holds a slight lead in the series lead by a count of 14-11-5. NIU got the best of the Blue and Gold a year ago, winning that matchup 2-1 in Dekalb, Ill. Sunday's matchup will also be the last conference matchup between the two schools as NIU will be leaving the Mid-American Conference after this season.
Up Next
After Senior Day, the Flashes will next head to Michigan for a pair of games with Central Michigan and Western Michigan. KSU will take on CMU on the road next on Thursday at 7 p.m.
