
Women’s Basketball to Host Miami for Noon Matchup on New Year’s Eve

Kent State returns to action on Wednesday and hosts Miami in a Mid-American Conference women's basketball contest at the M.A.C. Center scheduled for 12 p.m. tip.
The Golden Flashes (5-7, 0-1 MAC) lost the conference opener on the road, 73-69, against Bowling Green on Dec. 20. After making five straight shots and leading by as many as seven points less than three minutes into the contest, Kent State shot just 30.1% the rest of the day. Corynne Hauser led the way with 17 points, her best scoring performance against a Division I opponent this season. Riley Rismiller totaled eight points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots to help the Flashes lead in points in the paint (34-30), rebounding (43-41) and second chance scoring (13-12).
Junior Mya Babbitt is the MAC's sixth leading scorer at 15.3 points per game and has two of the top four single-game scoring performances in the league. Babbitt is tied for third in the conference with 25 three-point field goals and is the Flashes' second leading rebounder (4.7 rpg). Juniors Janae Tyler (10.5 ppg) and Riley Rismiller (8.3 ppg) provide low post options. Rismiller has three double-doubles and ranks eighth in the MAC in rebounding with 7.5 per game. Senior Dionna Gray (4.6 ppg) is third in the MAC in assists with 5.2 per game.
Scouting Miami
The RedHawks (8-4, 0-0 MAC) beat a talented Green Bay team in the top 100 of NET rankings, 66-50, in their most recent game on Dec. 20. One of two teams in the conference holding opponents under 60.0 points per game, Miami has also been efficient offensively and leads the MAC in field goal percentage (.449), assists per game (17.1) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.11).
Guard Amber Scalia (14.2 ppg) and forward Amber Tretter (13.5 ppg) are one of only two MAC teammates to rank in the top 10 in scoring. Scalia ranks third in the league with 26 three-point field goals and Tretter ranks third in rebounding at 8.9 boards per game. Guard Tamar Singer (11.3 ppg) ranks 11th in the nation with 6.9 assists per game and averages a team-high 2.2 steals per game. Forward Ilse de Vries (11.2 ppg) is the MAC leader at 1.6 blocks per game.
