
Tyler Leads Kent State to MAC-Sun Belt Challenge Victory Over Troy

TROY, Ala. — Sophomore Janae Tyler scored a career-high 26 points as Kent State went on the road and beat Troy, 84-73, on its home floor for the first time this season in a MAC-Sun Belt Challenge matchup on Saturday.
The Golden Flashes (16-8) led 11-0 less than four minutes into the contest, and the lead reached 15 on a three-pointer by senior Bridget Dunn with 3:56 remaining in the first quarter. Troy was able to score on its next three possessions and battled back within 27-19 after 10 minutes.
Following an even-played second quarter, Kent State was ahead 43-35 at halftime.
Behind 11 points from Tyler, the Flashes shot 9-of-12 from the floor during the third quarter and led by as many as 16 before the Trojans sank a late mid-range jumper to make it a 66-52 game entering the fourth.
After Troy made a run to get within 71-67 with 3:45 left, senior Jenna Batsch scored five on the next two possessions to make it 76-69 with 2:08 remaining. Kent State then put the game out of reach with an 8-0 run on five points by Tyler and a three-pointer by sophomore Mya Babbitt.
Led by Tyler's career performance, the Flashes totaled 48 points in the paint. Batsch finished with 20 points to give Kent State a pair of 20-point scorers for the second time this season. Dunn scored 16 and sank four three-pointers to move into fourth on the program's career list with 162. Babbitt added 12 points on four triples and is now 10 away from the Flashes' single-season record.
Kent State posted a 44-42 advantage on the glass against the nation's top rebounding team. Dunn led the way with eight, while Babbitt, Batsch, sophomore Riley Rismiller and Tyler grabbed six each.
Junior Dionna Gray recorded nine assists to match her career-high.
The Flashes will return to Mid-American Conference action next Saturday, Feb. 15 against Miami. Tip from the M.A.C. Center is scheduled for 1 p.m.
