
Kent State Hosts Miami for Annual Play4Kay Game on Saturday

The Kent State women's basketball team will hold the annual Play4Kay game as Mid-American Conference play resumes against Miami on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Golden Flashes (16-8, 8-3 MAC) handed Troy its first home loss of the season last Saturday, recording a wire-to-wire 84-73 victory in a MAC-Sun Belt Conference Challenge contest. Kent State opened with an 11-0 lead and never allowed the Trojans to get closer than four points. Sophomore Janae Tyler scored a career-high 26 points and senior Jenna Batsch added 20 points and seven assists. Junior Dionna Gray matched her career-high with nine assists.
Preseason All-MAC First Team selection Jenna Batsch (16.6 ppg, 4.1 apg) is the only player in the conference averaging at least 16 points and four assists per game. Bridget Dunn (8.6 ppg) ranks fifth in the nation in defensive rebounding (8.5 drpg) and 26th overall in rebounds per game (9.9). Mya Babbitt (12.1 ppg) leads the MAC with 61 three-pointers and has made 40.9% of attempts from beyond the arc. Dionna Gray averages 8.3 points and 4.9 assists per game while leading Kent State to a 14-5 record in games played this season. Janae Tyler (10.9 ppg) has scored more consistently in recent games, averaging 13.5 points over the last eight contests.
Scouting Miami
Defense has been key to the RedHawks (14-8, 6-5 MAC) already matching last season's conference win total. Miami ranks in the top-30 in the country in scoring defense (56.0 ppg), steals per game (11.9), turnovers forced per game (21.7) and defensive rating (80.9).
Guard Enjulina Gonzalez is the only three-time MAC Player of the Week recipient this season. Gonzalez ranks third in the conference in scoring at 17.0 points per game and shoots 41.9% on three-point attempts Forward Amber Tretter adds 10.5 points per game and grabs a team-high 8.0 rebounds per contest, which puts her fifth in the MAC. Guard Tamar Singer (6.4 ppg) leads the RedHawks with averages of 3.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
