BUFFALO, N.Y. — Junior Riley Rismiller scored a career-high 25 points on Saturday as Kent State defeated host Buffalo, 84-74, for its fourth consecutive victory.
Rismiller shot 11-of-12 from the floor, matching the program record for highest single-game field goal percentage (.917) set just seven days ago by sophomore Emory Klatt against rival Akron. Led by Rismiller, the Golden Flashes (9-10, 4-4 MAC) totaled 42 points in the paint and have scored at least 40 in three games during the winning streak.
Junior Mya Babbitt was right behind with 23 points and freshman Anna Campanelli added a career-high 19 points off the bench.
Sophomore Journey Hildebrand opened the scoring with a three-pointer and Babbitt added two more for a quick 9-2 lead. Babbitt knocked down four of six shots and totaled 10 points in the period, which ended with Kent State ahead 20-13.
An efficient second quarter in which the Flashes shot 57.1-percent from the field and had just one turnover extended the advantage to 45-31 at halftime.
Buffalo made its first five shots to start the third period, trimming its deficit to six. Campanelli then sank a shot from just outside the lane off a strong drive to the basket to start a 13-3 run. The Bulls were held without another field goal until more than a minute into the fourth as Kent State increased its lead to 16.
Back-to-back layups by Rismiller put the Flashes ahead by 18, their largest lead of the game, with 7:35 remaining.
Kent State will be back on the road against Toledo on Wednesday, Jan. 28 before returning to the M.A.C. Center on Sunday, Feb. 1 to host Ball State in a nationally televised game on CBS Sports Network.
