Kent, OHIO - The Golden Flashes turned in yet another strong defensive performance on Saturday as they took down the Butler Bulldogs at home by a score of 10-6. The win improved Kent State's record to 3-1, which is now the best four-game start in program history.
The Golden Flashes would open up the scoring less than three minutes into the game on a goal from junior Eva Anderson and an assist from senior Zayda Crumpton. After Butler would score the next two, the Flashes finished out the first half scoring the next four goals to help them jump out into a 6-5 lead heading into the halftime break.
KSU dominated in the second half defensively as they allowed just one goal in the final two frames, scoring four of the five goals in the third quarter before no scoring from both teams in the fourth.Â
The first goal of that run for the Blue and Gold came just 30 seconds into the second half as Senior Emily Bond scored her first goal of the season. Kent State slowed down the pace of play in the fourth quarter to secure their second home win in a week.
Junior Morgan Halli led the way on the offensive end for the Flashes with three goals. Crumpton also finished with three points off of one goal and two assists, while senior Riley Floyd finished with two goals and senior Meghan Haddow contributed a goal and an assist.
Sophomore Anna Zucconi once again anchored the Kent State defense with seven ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Senior Meghan Haddow and sophomore Josie Wallace also contributed two caused turnovers each. Junior goalie Sydney Davis had another impressive performance with 14 saves in net for the Golden Flashes in the win.
