ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Kent State Field Hockey lost 0-4 against the 8^th-ranked Michigan Wolverines on Friday evening in Ann Arbor.

The Golden Flashes couldn't get many offensive chances against the stifling Wolverines backs and midfielders. Kent State was outshot 3-28 in the contest and operated at a 1-16 shots on goal disadvantage. On the other hand, KSU's defense battled hard throughout the game, coming up with huge stops and playing with tons of high energy for all 60 minutes.

Michigan had their first big chance at scoring with five minutes left in the first when Milaw Clause took a shot from the left side of the goal. Kent State goalkeeper Michaela Skinner came up with a huge save to nullify the attack and keep the game scoreless at the end of the first quarter. Skinner had a season-high 12 saves in the game and vigorously battled through Michigan's 15 penalty corners that they took in the matchup.

The second quarter was Michigan's most dominant in terms of shots as the Wolverines outshot the Golden Flashes 11-0. However, Kent State defender trio: Lauren Conroy, Emily Robertson, and Ryli Zee, created havoc for Michigan, preventing many of the shots from being clean looks with their intense defense.

Michigan midfielder Kelsey Reviello had the lone breakthrough in the quarter, connecting for the first goal of the game towards the end of the half. The Wolverines took a 1-0 lead into the break. Reviello finished the game as the star with six shots, four shots on goal, one goal, one assist, and a near second goal that barely missed the net wide.

Kent State's defense continued to keep the game close in the third quarter as Ryli Zee's low stick defense prevented a breakaway goal at the start of the half by Michigan's Juliette Manzur.

The Golden Flashes got their first real opportunity to score at the 7:30 minute mark in the third as they set up for their first penalty corner of the night. The play resulted in a scramble for the ball near the net before it was barely put wide of the goal.

Kent State senior midfielder Eva Usoz had another chance with five minutes left in the frame as she forced a Michigan turnover, which turned into her breaking away down the middle of the field. Usoz had only two defenders to beat in front of her, but got the ball stolen from behind her by a stealthy Michigan midfielder. Usoz had the best statistical offensive performance for the Golden Flashes in the game as she was responsible for all three of the team's shots.

Usoz continued her solid third quarter performance with a swift crossing pass to the Kent State front line. Forward Maybritt Duwel deflected the pass into the net for what seemed to be a game-tying goal with a minute left in the quarter. The Kent State sideline erupted with excitement as the momentum seemingly shifted to the Golden Flashes. However, after an official review, the play was deemed to be a dangerous ball and the goal was overturned. The review decision resulted in the score remaining 0-1 heading into the fourth quarter.

The final frame was Michigan's best as they began to hit their offensive stride. The Wolverines scored three goals in the final 10 minutes, taking the defensive battle by four goals.
