Lacrosse Hits the Road For Two Games in Indiana

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State women's lacrosse team travels to Indiana in search of its first win in program history, with a two-game weekend road trip that includes a Friday, Feb. 22, 3 p.m. matchup with Butler before heading to Notre Dame to take on the Fighting Irish on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m.
Team captain Grace Merrill has been a leader in goal for the Flashes, recording 16.5 saves per game in her first two career starts. She is tied for first in the NCAA in saves per game and is tied for seventh with 33 total saves. Her 52.4 percent save percentage ranks second in the ASUN.
Abby Jones leads the Flashes in scoring, with six goals in the first two contests. Jones is coming off a four point game in which she netted three goals and added an assist against Robert Morris. Lluna Katz has fired four goals in two games, while Megan Kozar and Graceyn Dean have each tallied two goals on the season.
Scouting Butler
Another upstart squad, Butler (0-2) is only in the third year of its program. The Bulldogs are coming off a 2018 campaign in which they went 1-16.
Butler is led by senior team captain Haley Hallenback and sophomore Ashley Guerra. The latter led the Bulldogs last year with 33 points. Hallenback and Guerra tied for the team lead with 21 goals.
Scouting Notre Dame
The No. 20 ranked Fighting Irish (3-0) are led by junior midfielder Savannah Buchanan and sophomore attacker Maddie Howe, who were each named to the 2019 Preseason All-ACC Team.
Senior goalkeeper Samantha Giacolone entered the season ranked third in Notre Dame history in wins (33), goals-against average (9.82), minutes played (3,226) and is fourth all-time in saves (467).
Sophomore midfielder Andie Aldave set a single-season Irish record in 2018 with 98 draw controls. Aldave and Howe became the first freshmen duo in Notre Dame history to each record 30+ goals in a season.
Up Next
The Flashes return home next Sunday, March 3 for a matchup with St. Bonaventure at 1 p.m. at Dix Stadium. Following the home matchup, Kent State will hit the road for a three-game road trip that includes games against Michigan, Detroit Mercy and Saint Francis (Pa.).
