Lacrosse Hosts First Ever ASUN Conference Games

KENT, Ohio โ The Kent State lacrosse team (1-12, 0-3 ASUN) hosts two ASUN conference matchups this weekend against Kennesaw State (5-7, 0-1 ASUN) on Thursday at 3 p.m., and against Howard (0-8, 0-2 ASUN) on Sunday at 11 a.m.
The Golden Flashes are coming off a two-game Florida road trip in which they fell to ASUN conference opponents Stetson and Jacksonville.
"This game is our next opportunity to make an impact in the ASUN and the team is excited about turning a corner for the end of the season," said Head Coach Brianne Tierney. "We have some valuable experience in the ASUN and we can apply all of those lessons we have learned tomorrow. We continue to see big plays from our team and want to start to string together a number of those plays in a row."
One of just five Flashes to start in all 13 games, Abby Jones ranks first on the team in points (36), goals (24), assists (12), draw controls (39) and caused turnovers (13).
Megan Kozar (23g, 9a) and Lluna Katz (22g) also lead the Flashes' offense which has scored 103 goals on the season. The defense is led by Hailee Andry, Malissa Beall and Alyssa Monroe who each have 10 or more caused turnovers. Monroe ranks second on the Flashes with 23 ground balls, including a career-high six against Saint Francis (Pa.) on March 20.
In goal for the Flashes, Grace Merrill posts 134 saves in 13 starts this season. Her 10.31 saves per game average ranks 13th in the country. She also ranks fourth in the ASUN with 39 ground balls and her 3.0 ground balls per game ranking 29th in the NCAA.
Scouting Kennesaw State
The Owls are led by Sienna Gore, who leads the team and ranks seventh in the country with 50 goals. The unanimous 2018 ASUN Freshman of the Year leads the ASUN in goals and has been named ASUN Player of the Week twice.
Marissa Gore, Sienna's twin sister, ranks 25th in the NCAA with 5.50 draw controls per game. She leads the Owls with 19 caused turnovers and ranks third on the team with 20 ground balls.
In goal for Kennesaw State, Alex Bunn broke the KSU single-game record with 17 saves earlier this season. Her 119 saves ranks second in the ASUN behind Merrill.
Scouting Howard
Howard is winless on the season so far and has two losses against opponents also on Kent State's schedule. The Bison fell to the Delaware State, 14-11, and also to Gardner-Webb, 21-5.
The Bison offense is led by Jillian Jones (10g, 1a) and Lailah Robey (7g, 1a). They are led in goal by Andrea Feivre, who has recorded 50 saves in eight games this season.
Up Next
Kent State will finish its season on the road at Central Michigan on April 20 before returning home to take on Liberty on April 24.
