Golden Flashes Travel to CMU for Weekend Matchup

KENT, Ohio โ The Kent State lacrosse (2-13) team travels north to Central Michigan (6-9) to battle the Chippewas in a non-conference matchup. The two teams are both members of the Mid-American Conference but are separated for women's lacrosse due to the MAC not having enough members to form a conference.
"Our trip up to CMU is exciting as they are in the fourth year of their program and it will be great for our players to see what that looks like on the field and how we match up against a team like that," said Head Coach Brianne Tierney. "They are a tough team that will be a great matchup for us as we wind down this inaugural season. I am looking forward to setting another high benchmark in our level of play."
The Golden Flashes earned their second win of their inaugural season with a 17-1 victory over ASUN conference opponent Howard on Sunday. Lluna Katz and Meghan Cawood led the Flashes' offense, scoring four goals each.
Katz has been on fire recently, recording four or more goals in four of her last five games. She leads the team with 31 goals, including 14 goals in ASUN conference play which is tied for fourth most in the league. ย
Abby Jones has been a swiss army knife for the Flashes this season, ranking in the top three on the team in seven different categories. She leads the team in points (45), assists (17), draw controls (45), caused turnovers (15) and free position goals (7). The freshman midfielder ranks in the top-10 in the ASUN in goals (28), assists, points and caused turnovers.ย
Grace Merrill leads the Golden Flashes in goal, averaging 9.80 saves per game and ranking 23rd in the country. Her 147 total saves leads the ASUN and ranks 19th in the NCAA.
Malissa Beall leads the Flashes' defense with 15 caused turnovers, while Hailee Andry and Alyssa Monroe each have recorded 13 caused turnovers. Monroe ranks second on the team and 13th in the ASUN with 27 ground balls. In their two wins this season, the Flashes are averaging 3.5 goals allowed per game.
Scouting Central Michigan
Central Michigan is in its fourth year of lacrosse and is 6-9 overall, including 2-2 in SoCon play. The Chippewas have wins over Butler and Cincinnati this season.
Jocelyne Lemay leads the Chippewas with 37 goals this season, while Natalie Karlen paces CMU in points (34g, 11a). In goal for CMU, Hope Murray and Dominique Hamman split duties. Murray has posted 416 minutes, has an 11.67 goals against average and a .521 save percentage. Hamman has tallied 371 minutes, has a 13.08 goals against average and a .464 save percentage.
