
Volleyball Wins Wild Five-Setter to Complete Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge Sweep

AKRON, Ohio – The Kent State volleyball team completed the season sweep of rival Akron on Saturday, extending its winning streak to three with a 3-2 victory (28-30, 25-21, 25-21, 19-25, 15-11) to earn a full point in the Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge standings.
The Golden Flashes (9-11, 4-4 MAC) won five consecutive rivalry matchups behind the strong play of middle blockers Jacqlyn Caspers and Danie Tyson. The duo dominated the decisive fifth set, combining for seven kills and a pair of blocks. Caspers, a redshirt junior, finished the night with a career-high 19 kills, surpassing her previous mark of 11 set on Friday night, a .545 hitting percentage and five blocks. Tyson, a senior, was right behind with 17 kills, season-high six digs and three blocks.
Redshirt senior Alex Haffner totaled a career-high 63 assists and added eight digs. In addition to setting her middles up for a huge night, Haffner helped a pair of Kent State's pins record double-digit kills. Junior Savannah Matthews had 14 kills and freshman Kiersten Kraus posted a career-high 12 kills. Matthews added 15 digs and Kraus tallied 11 for her first collegiate double-double.
Senior Erin Gardner and sophomore Bryn Roberts had strong performances in the back row. Gardner totaled a season-high 27 digs and Roberts added 20.
The Flashes are scheduled for a three-match week, beginning with a trip to Ohio on Wednesday, Oct. 20. Kent State will then host Buffalo at the M.A.C. Center for matches on Friday, Oct. 22 and Saturday, Oct. 23.
