LEWISBURG, Pa. β Second quarter goals by Luisa Knapp and Corynne Hammit were enough for 24th-ranked Kent State to earn a 2-1 victory Sunday at Bucknell.
The Golden Flashes (10-4) found a way to win their second game of the week despite only registering four shots and extended their season-best winning streak to five.
Luisa Knapp got the scoring started with 7:03 to play in the second period, maneuvering around the goalkeeper to find the back of the net after a pass from Sydney Carr.
Corynne Hammit extended the lead in the final minute of the period, converting a loose ball in front of the net for a goal. Knapp was credited with an assist on the score.
Bucknell got on the board with just under nine minutes remaining in the contest. The Bison had an opportunity to even the score on a penalty corner with 3:56 to play, but Azure Fernsler made a pair of clutch saves before a third shot went wide of the goal. Fernsler finished with five saves.
Kent State is scheduled to play a pair of road games next week. After a Mid-American Conference contest at Appalachian State on Friday, Oct. 22, the Flashes will visit No. 9 Liberty on Sunday, Oct. 24.
