Women’s Basketball Visits Miami on Saturday

Kent State takes a three-game win streak on the road and will play at Miami at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 27.
The Golden Flashes (10-6, 9-4 MAC) followed two road wins over Northern Illinois on Saturday and Sunday by defeating Buffalo, 65-62, on Wednesday. Mariah Modkins sank a go-ahead runner near the elbow late in the shot clock with 50.6 seconds to play, and Nila Blackford added a layup with 17.1 remaining as Kent State scored the game's final four points. The Flashes held the Bulls to their second lowest-scoring game of the season and without a field goal over the final 4:55 of the contest. Blackford scored 16 of her team-high 18 points in the second half and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Katie Shumate added 17 points and made three three-point field goals.
Four players are averaging at least 11.2 points per game against conference opponents. Sophomore Nila Blackford is one of three MAC players averaging a double-double with team-best marks of 15.9 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Sophomore Katie Shumate (12.1 ppg) has a team-high 41.8 three-point field goal percentage. Junior Lindsey Thall adds 11.4 points per game and is the top shot blocker (1.8 bpg) in the MAC for the third year in a row while averaging a career-best 5.4 rebounds per game. Sophomore Clare Kelly (9.8 ppg) has scored at least 11 games in six of the past eight games, including a career-high 27 points against Toledo on February 8. Junior Mariah Modkins (7.3 ppg) leads the Flashes with 3.1 assists per game. Freshman Casey Santoro adds 6.6 points per game off the bench.
Scouting Miami
The RedHawks (3-18, 2-15 MAC) showed much improvement to start February, beating Western Michigan and Toledo while losing to Kent State and Ball State by just two points and Central Michigan by three, but are coming off a disappointing 84-63 loss to Akron on Wednesday.
Guard Peyton Scott lead the team with averages of 21.6 points, 5.0 assists and 2.6 steals per game. Scott is averaging 29.7 points over the past six games, which started with at least 31 points in four straight contests. Forward Kelly McLaughlin (12.1 ppg, 7.3 rpg), one of three Miami seniors who will be honored on Saturday, has averaged 17.0 points and 9.8 rebounds over the RedHawks' past four games. Guard/forward Katie Davidson has been one of the most productive freshmen in the MAC and averages 11.5 points per game.
