KENT, Ohio – The Kent State lacrosse team (3-7, 2-3 MAC) travels to Akron (5-6, 2-4 MAC) on Tuesday, April 20, in search of a Wagon Wheel sweep of the Zips to begin a stretch of four games in nine days.
After the rivalry contest with the Zips, the Flashes will travel to Michigan to take on Detroit Mercy on April 22.
The Golden Flashes dropped their last contest to RMU – the conference leaders – just over a week ago. Despite the most recent setback, the Flashes have won three of their last six games. In those six games, freshman Jackie Wolford has cemented herself as part of the Kent State attack. She has recorded all 16 of her points in the last six games, including at least one goal in five straight contests.
Along with Wolford, junior Madison Rapier has been another star piece in the Golden Flashes' offense. She leads the team with 26 goals and ranks fourth in the Mid-American Conference with 2.89 goals per game. Rapier has scored a goal in nine of the 10 games this season.
The Flashes' defense has been solid at times this season. Thanks to the emergence of junior Graceyn Dean on that side of the ball, Kent State has caused more turnovers than its opponents this season. Dean leads the team with 13 caused turnovers in just six starts.
About Akron
The Zips sit directly behind the Flashes in fourth place in the MAC standings. Akron has dropped three of its last four contests with only three games remaining on the schedule.
Alexis Kiefer leads the team with a whopping 37 goals. She sits at third in the conference at 3.08 goals per game. Six other Zips have recorded double-digit points this season to lead a well-balanced attack.
About Detroit Mercy
Detroit Mercy is currently in fifth place in the MAC standings with a 1-2 conference record. Elise Harder leads the Titans with 15 goals on the season. In just four total games in 2021, three different Titans have recorded double digit points.
