KENT, Ohio – The Kent State women's lacrosse team hosts Butler at Dix Stadium Saturday at 1 p.m., to begin the program's fourth season.
About the Flashes
The Golden Flashes, led by Head Coach Brianne Tierney, are entering their fourth season and second season in the Mid-American Conference. Kent State was picked to finish fourth in the MAC Preseason Coaches Poll released Tuesday.
Kent State returns its all-time leading goal scorer, senior Abby Jones, who has been with the program since its inception in 2019. Jones, the Coon Rapids, Minnesota native, is coming off a season in which she once again led the team in goals with 38, which was also fourth in the MAC.
Jones was named First Team All-MAC in 2021. The Flashes also return senior midfielder Madison Rapier and sophomore attacker Jackie Wolford. Rapier was named to the All-MAC Second Team a year ago, thanks to scoring 31 goals and controlling 36 draws. She also recorded 18 ground balls and caused 13 turnovers. Wolford was named MAC Freshman of the Year, after posting a whopping 15 goals in the last four conference games of the season and being ranked second on the team in conference goals (tied for seventh in the conference).
Twenty-two additional players return from last year's team, a team that posted a record of 5-10 (4-6 in the MAC), the best mark in the program's short history. Kent State also adds seven freshman to this year's squad.
