KENT, Ohio - The Kent State lacrosse team opened up its 2022 season Saturday at home against Butler. The Bulldogs would ultimately prevail though, beating the Golden Flashes in a close one, 11-10.
Kenzie Sklar put on a huge performance for Kent State, knocking in six goals in the game, one shy of the program record. The junior from Galena, Ohio was efficient with her shots, scoring on six of nine attempts and spreading them out across the entirety of the game.
Other Flashes to pick up goals in this one include senior midfielder Abby Jones, who scored twice, and sophomore attacker Jackie Wolford. All Kent State goals were unassisted.
But whenever Kent State would score a goal, it seemed that Butler had an answer at the other end of the field. Junior midfielder Kaley Attaway scored four goals, with junior attacker Campbell Connors and junior midfielder Kayla Kielbasa tacking on two more apiece. Three additional Butler players scored as well, totaling 11 goals on 32 shot attempts from the Bulldogs.
Kent State junior goalkeeper Madison Flannigan had 13 saves on the day but was awarded with a tough luck loss in this one, a game which could have been won by either side down to the very end. Butler sophomore goalie Aleigh Monroe had six saves and ended up with the win.
Now, the Flashes prepare for their next game, another home affair next week. That contest, which will be against Duquesne, is set to kick off Friday at 4 p.m. at Dix Stadium.
