KENT, Ohio - The Kent State women's lacrosse team is set to take on Duquesne at Dix Stadium Sunday at 2 p.m., making up a game originally scheduled for Friday.
About the Flashes
Kent State enters the game with a record of 0-1, following their loss to Butler to open the 2022 campaign on Saturday. In that game, junior attacker Kenzie Sklar scored six goals for the Flashes, nearly breaking the program record. She only missed three shots all day, and spread her goals across all four quarters.
Other Flashes to pick up goals in this one include senior midfielder Abby Jones, who scored twice, and sophomore attacker Jackie Wolford. All Kent State goals were unassisted.
Kent State junior goalkeeper Madison Flannigan had 13 saves on the day but was awarded with a tough luck loss in a game which could have been won by either side down to the very end.
About the Dukes
Duquesne currently sits at 1-1 for the season. In their first game of the year at Pitt, the Dukes fell to the Panthers in overtime, 9-8. In the loss, Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw scored three goals for the Dukes, with Tina St. Clair and Julie Cassidy adding on two of their own. But it wasn't enough to get past their ACC opponent in Pitt.
But the Dukes bounced back on Monday, defeating Youngstown State in their home opener, 19-15. Rodriguez-Shaw, St. Clair, and Sam King all scored four times apiece in their win over the Penguins. Alana Piano also scored three times and had 10 draw controls.
Duquesne is coming off of a season in which they finished at 4-5, including 3-5 in conference play. Their lone non-conference game played in 2021 came against Kent State, who they beat in the season opener. This was the first time that the two teams had met.
