
Track and Field to Host 2022 MAC Indoor Championships This Weekend

The Kent State men's and women's indoor track and field teams will compete for the conference crown, hosting the 2022 Indoor Track and Field Mid-American Conference Championships at the Kent State Field House Friday, Feb. 25 and Saturday, Feb. 26.
Action begins Friday at 10:45 a.m. with the 60-meter dash for the men's heptathlon. The women's pentathlon will begin with the 60-meter hurdles at 11 a.m. Field events are also scheduled to start at 11 a.m. with the women's weight throw. Qualifiers for sprints and hurdles are on the slate for Friday afternoon, as well as the finals for the 5,000-meter run and distance medley relay.
Saturday's action will begin with the men's heptathlon 60-meter hurdles at 11 a.m. The women's triple jump and shot put as well as the men's high jump will mark the start of the field events at noon. Championship races are scheduled to start on the track at 1:15 p.m. with the men's mile and will conclude at approximately 4:40 p.m. with the women's 4x400-meter relay. The Awards Ceremony will follow at 5 p.m.
SPECTATOR INFO
Admission is $15 per day for adults and $10 per day for youths (ages 3-12). An all-session pass will also be available for purchase at $20 for adults and $15 for youths. Doors will open one hour prior to the start of competition each day.
Per University health protocols, a reminder that masks are REQUIRED to be worn inside all campus buildings, including the Kent State Field House, regardless of vaccination status for all faculty, staff, and fans. Failure to comply with the mask mandate is grounds for removal from the facility.
Kent State Athletics recently announced that concessions have returned to full service at athletics events hosted indoors. As a reminder, concessions are cashless and accept credit and debit cards, Flash Cards, and declining balance.
PREVIEWING THE FLASHES
On the men's side, 26 student-athletes will compete including three that are ranked at the top of the conference in their events. Asa Hodrick will compete for the individual title in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.24 while Alexandre Malanda and Jacob Mally will do the same in the triple jump (52'-2.5") and heptathlon (5358), respectively.
Alexander Shields sits in second in the heptathlon (5229) right behind Mally and Jake Wickey enters the weekend ranking second the weight throw after breaking the Kent State school record with a heave of 75'-11.5".
On the women's side, 22 student-athletes are scheduled to compete, including three that are ranked top two in the conference in their respective events. Top-ranked Mi'Angel Daniels and Leah Pasqualetti will both battle for the individual title in 60-meter hurdles (8.55) and pole vault (13'-9.25"), respectively, while second-ranked Gabby Bailey will compete in the shot put (54'-3.25").
NEXT UP FOR KENT STATE
Kent State athletes that finish in the top-16 nationally in their respected events will qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held in Birmingham, Alabama from March 11-13.
