
Kent State Wins MAC Opener Against App State

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State field hockey team defeated App State, 2-1, in the Mid-American Conference opener Sunday afternoon at Murphy-Mellis Field.
Both teams held the first three quarters scoreless until entering the fourth quarter. The Golden Flashes earned a penalty corner at 6:39 where sophomore Agustina Florio scored for the Flashes to take the lead. Four minutes later, junior Jenna McCrudden took a reverse shot on goal after receiving a pass from Maria Cambra Soler to give the Flashes the second goal of the game. The Mountaineers fought back in the final quarter and Friederike Stegen put App State on the scoreboard.
Kent State lead in overall shots (14-4), shots on goal (8-2), and penalty corners (8-3) over App State.
The Flashes will be at home again next week against Ball State on Friday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. at Murphy-Mellis Field.
