
Lacrosse Opens Season in Cincinnati

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State lacrosse team will kick off the 2023 season at Cincinnati on Friday at 3 p.m.
About the Golden Flashes
Led by Head Coach Brianne Tierney, the Golden Flashes enter into their fifth season and third season as part of the Mid-American Conference. Kent State was voted to finish third in the MAC Preseason Coaches Poll that was released Tuesday.
Returning players Jackie Wolford, Jordan Zablo, and Lily Miller received All-MAC honors. Wolford set a new Kent State record in goals scored (41) and led the team with 47 points and 16 caused turnovers. Zablo and Miller were the defensive leaders. Mille led the team with 38 ground balls and Zablo 33.
Morgan Kubicki and Madison Flannigan were also statistical leaders last season. Kubicki led the Flashes with 17 assists and Flannigan made 114 saves.
About the Bearcats
The Bearcats are coming off a 7-10 record from 2022 and were selected sixth overall in the AAC Preseason Poll.
Junior Ava Goeller and senior Dani MlkvyÂÂ were named to the preseason all-conference team, as announced by the league on Tuesday. Goeller ranked sixth overall in the AAC for goals per game (2.59 avg/g) and second for free-position goals (0.88 avg/g). She was also ranked 11th nationally for shots per game at 7.82. Mlkvy led the Bearcats with 38 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers.
Series History
Kent State holds a 0-4 record against the Bearcats. The first game in Golden Flashes history was played at Cincinnati, a 19-8 loss, on Feb. 10, 2019. Cincinnati is one of only two programs that Kent State has played since the program began. Last season, the Golden Flashes fell 17-11 at home.
